Collection consists of letters pertaining to Charles Dickens written to James W.T. Ley, secretary and later vice-president of the Dickens Fellowship, London, from various persons. Many were family members, friends and acquaintances of Dickens, writing in response to information requested by Ley for his book, The Dickens circle (1918). Correspondents include Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema, Sir James Barrie, Marie Corelli, Sir Henry Fielding Dickens, Jerome K. Jerome, Leo Tolstoy, and Jules Verne.
